Grammeno beach in Gialos

For the average tourist, the small town of Gialos, located about 5 km west of Paleochora (Παλαιόχωρα), seems not to be an interesting destination for the trip. Looking at this place from the perspective of aerial photographs, what attracts the most attention is the huge number of foil tents in which tomatoes and other vegetables are grown. And although it looks not very attractive, it is not worth crossing out Gialos from the list of places that are worth visiting because the Grammeno beach (Γραμμένο) located here can be counted among one of the best and nicest beaches in the area of Crete.

Grammeno - view of the beach

Peninsula of unique juniper

The eastern border of the beach is marked by a peninsula called the same as the beach - Grammeno. Its shape resembles the half of a croissant that extends deeply beyond the coast. This place is unique not only because of its very picturesque location, but also because of the juniper species growing on it: Juniperus macrocarpa and Juniperus phoenicea - Phoenician juniper and large-flowered juniper. They are very unique plants that require special care. Their natural habitats in Crete occur in Crete in just a few places, such as Falasarna beach or Elafonissi . Junipers also create extensive habitats on such islands as Gavdos or Chrissi.

A special feature of these plants is a very slow growth often reaching even less than 1 cm per year. Therefore, it should not come as a surprise that even small trees of these juniper trees can be older than 300 years with their age.

Although each year these junipers produce a very large amount of seeds, only a few of them in the future will give rise to the next plants. However, even those who manage to germinate mostly dry up due to the harsh environment in which they grow. All this means that the natural regeneration of the habitats of these plants is very slow. It is worth bearing in mind that if you are resting on this beach you will want to use the shade of juniper on the Grammeno peninsula.

Sandy beach

Grammeno beach is just like one of the best beaches in this area of Crete. The perfect sandy coast with a gently sloping bottom encourages long baths. Thanks to its location within the almost closed bay, this place is perfect for relaxation for families with even smaller children who can freely play under the supervision of their parents in the sea.

The rocky shores located at both ends of the beach are also great places for snorkelling fans. Perfectly transparent water gives excellent conditions for watching sea life.

Even at the peak of the holiday season, this place can be relatively calm and quiet. Most of the beach vacationers are a group of very few tourists who spend their holidays in Crete in one of the few guesthouses in Gialos. It is also worth mentioning here that in the vicinity of the beach there is also a campsite which, apart from the possibility of buying a place for your motorhome, also offers renting quite Spartan houses. If you are a fan of this type of recreation, you can find more information directly on the Grammeno Camping website:
https://grammeno-camping.business.site/

Grammeno - kids on the beach

It's windy

The bay of Chouma (Χουμά), at which the Grammeno beach is located, promises that the place is well isolated from the influence of waves and wind. Unfortunately, this is not entirely true. And while the actual, even when the weather is not too favorable, you can enjoy quite a calm sea here, unfortunately the wind can be very annoying here.

The flat land space extending along this part of the coast makes the place not too well protected from the winds blowing from the mountains north of the beach. Being here during strong gusts can be very unpleasant. Small grains of sand torn from the ground mercilessly hit any part of the body with bare clothing. Most people exposed to this natural peeling will quickly escape from the beach.

How to get

Grammeno Beach is located a short distance from Paleochory . All people who go here from the northern coast area should go towards Chania. Then, using the exit from the New National Road located in Tavronitis, take the road to Paleochora. Passing through the center of this village, turn right, heading for Gialos. Grammeno beach is located on the eastern outskirts of this village. Along the road there are signposts with the name of this beach. The car can be left on one of the several parking lots on the road.

You can also reach Grammeno by KTEL bus. However, due to the large distance separating the beach from the northern coast, this is an option directed at people who are relaxing in Paleochora. Every day from this locality small KTEL buses perform several courses on the Paleochora-Krios route.

Tripiti beach and gorge

Tripiti beach and gorge

Redirected from the site - Tripiti beach and gorge. Tripiti is a small beach covered with a mixture of gray sand, gravel and stones. Despite the fact that the beach is unorganized and has a semi-natural appearance, one small tavern works here. The vast majority of people relaxing in this place are the local Cretans. This is evidenced by the fact that the vast majority of parked cars are pickups and off-road vehicles. A great surprise is the view of many caravans, campers and tents, which are in the vicinity of tablets strongly prohibiting camping and parking ... caravans. On the hill in the north-eastern part of the beach (Kalokambos), you can see small Minoan ruins.

Kommos

Kommos

When traveling around Crete, it is not difficult to pay attention to the fact that most of the beaches there are relatively small and short. For this reason, people who are used to our national Baltic standards, where the sandy coast stretches for kilometers, may experience a special disappointment. However, fortunately, nothing is lost, because Crete in its rich arsenal of various beaches can boast of those that allow for long walks along the coast. One of them, our favorite is the Kommos beach located in the south of the central part of the island.

Bardzo ładnie
Patrząc okiem turysty nie podoba mi się ten plan.To miejsce historyczne i w takim klimacie powinno zostać. Napewno są powody dla których prąd jest tam potrzebny .Nie wyobrażam sobie jednak ,,podświetlonej,,Spinalongi tak jak Akropol w Atenach.
Ładnie to wygląda

No ale podstawą do życia czyli woda znika w coraz szybszym tempie. Co nas czeka za 10-20 lat?
Ale kraść nie ładnie. Nieraz jedyne utrzymanie ludzi, którzy ją produkują
Przywiozłem jak zawsze. Najlepsza
Z moich rozmów z producentami wynika (a współpracuje z ponad 30 z Grecji) najbardziej podrożeje ( i podrożała ) oliwa kulinarna od dużych masowych producentów. Mniejsi , mający swoje własne plantacje i produkujący wyłącznie oliwę "single estate" klasy premium pod swoją marką nie zwiększają drastycznie cen. (...)
