Mochlos (Μόχλος) is a small town located roughly halfway between Agios Nikolaos and Sitia. There are several taverns and guest houses offering rooms for rent on the main road that runs through this village and then approaches the coast. Mochlos is an extremely peaceful place, which climate is very far away from the typical tourist hustle and bustle in other places on the north coast of Crete. Most of the residents living in Mochlos are people from the Sfaka village. This village has a very strong Cretan character, which is manifested even by the very high cordiality and friendliness of its inhabitants.
A large number of people who vacation in this place are Greeks who appreciate the peace here. However, this is not the only advantage that Mochlos is famous for. Taverns located along the coast are famous for their high quality dishes, especially those prepared from local seafood prepared according to recipes of traditional Cretan cuisine. If you would like to try these specialties, we recommend you to come to Mochlos in the evening. Until noon hours, according to the old tradition, most taverns are closed.
History hidden on the island of Mochlos
About 150 meters from the waterfront is a very characteristic small island, which also bears the name Mochlos. Most probably in Minoan times it was an integral part of Crete creating a small peninsula. Due to the deepening of the eastern part of Crete in the sea caused by the tectonic plate movement on which Crete is located, Mochlos became an island.
The first excavation work began here in 1908, the American archaeologist Richard Seager. This is one of the lesser known, but quite deserving figures associated with archaeological work carried out on Crete. Before starting work at Mochlos, Seager participated in conducting archaeological works in Gourni. Later, under his leadership, excavations were carried out in Vasiliki.
Excavations at Mochlos were the second important stand-alone project led by Richard Seager. In the western part of the island he discovered a cemetery with two large tombs and a much larger number of smaller graves. Further archaeological work was carried out only in 1970 by Jeffrey Soles from the University of North Carolina at Greensbor, who, apart from exploring the cemetery discovered by Seager, revealed the presence of remains of buildings on the south coast of the island.
Two buildings from Minoan times, most probably craft workshops, were also found in the area of the modern town of Mochlos. In one of them ivory and stones were processed, while the second was most probably a pottery workshop. The next stage of excavations conducted under the direction of Jeffrey Soles and Costis Davaras from the University of Athens, fell in 1989-1994. Some of the work is carried out to this day, but currently researchers are focusing on describing and cataloging previously discovered artifacts. Under the surface of the land of this small island and the Mochlos area there are certainly more treasures associated with the Minoan history.
How to get
Mochlos is located on the north coast in the eastern part of Crete. The village is about 30 kilometers away Agios Nikolaos. More or less the same distance separates Mochlos from the city of Sitia. At the height of the village of Sfaka is the intersection of New National Road and the road that leads directly to Mochlos. This route falls spectacularly towards the sea and along the way you will be able to admire the majestic quarry that devours one of the surrounding hills.

Koszt wynajęcia samo jodu w ciągu ostatnich kilku lat wzrósł z ok 15 do 25 - 30 euro i jakoś nie widać by turyści rezygnowali z wynajmu.
Zadady podobne w Hiszpanii i Grecji.
