Car tour from Agios Nikolaos

We present another plan for a road trip around Crete. This is the third proposal, this time in the area of Lassithi Prefecture, with the starting point in Agios Nikolaos. We estimate its time consumption in the basic version at about half a day. As before, people who will implement such a plan (now or in the future) are encouraged to show off photos from each stage.

Tour 3

We set off from the town of Agios Nikolaos. On our map, the conventional starting point is marked by the vicinity of Lake Voulismeni, although of course you can set off from anywhere in the city or get to its vicinity.

The first place we suggest to visit is Olive Oil Park Physis of Crete . The Olive Park is about 2 km outside Agios Nikolaos. It is an interesting place for those who are interested in the production of olive oil and the search for great quality products. In addition to getting to know the technical side of pressing olive oil, you will have the opportunity to test it here. It is a new point on the map of Crete attractions, which is worth visiting, the more that its creators have been producing olive oil awarded in various prestigious competitions for years. In addition, people who have been to the Greek Panorama in Warsaw may associate the Physis of Crete company and its products from this event. The Oliwa Park is open from 9am to 5pm.

From the park, we move to the next place, which is a small Byzantine church from the 13th-14th century Panagia Kera . It is located just one kilometer from the village of Kritsa and is one of the most famous religious monuments in Crete. Inside, you can see unusual frescoes that were hidden under the plaster for hundreds of years. The early Christians concealed their presence to protect them from destruction by the Turkish occupier. The frescoes were not rediscovered until 1971.

The next point on the map of the trip is the village of Kritsa . Here, the car must be left in the large parking lot at the beginning of the village and explored on foot. It is one of the largest and oldest Cretan villages, the origins of which date back to the 2nd century BC. To appreciate the charm of this village, you just have to venture into its thicket of streets. The higher you go, the older buildings you get. The best patent is to go where your legs will go. You will also notice that this is a good place to buy local products, handicrafts and souvenirs. It is also an excellent outdoor location for photographic enthusiasts and hunters of the Cretan climate.

If you are passionate about hiking, there is also a 4-kilometer-long picturesque Kritsa gorge next to this village. People who would like to take the walk must of course take into account the additional time allocated for this walk, take appropriate footwear and a supply of drinks.

From Kritsa, we drive a bit further to the Lato archaeological site. Here are the ruins of a Doric city-state, which is one of the best-preserved cities from the Hellenistic period. In its heyday, it was also one of the strongest cities of Crete. These are excavations that are not very often visited, and in our opinion, it is worth visiting them.

Finally, we suggest a visit to the local Stavrakakis tavern in the small village of Lakkonia . It is located near the Lato excavations. We had a chance to eat at this place once and think it is a good place to dine and end the tour.

From Lakconia, we return to Agios Nikolaos by local minor roads or we get to the main road E75 connecting Agios with Heraklion.

PS. However, if you feel that you do not want to end this trip, we recommend the picturesque Voulisma beach to complete it .

Car tour from Kissamos

Car tour from Kissamos

This time we are giving an idea for a second road trip. This time we put together a few points on the tourist map of the western tip of Crete. In this case, we also encourage those who will make this route to post photos documenting the trip in the comments under the Facebook post.

Car tour from Heraklion - archaeological tour

Car tour from Heraklion - archaeological tour

This time we offer you another car route located in the Heraklion Prefecture. This is the route we have named the Archaeological. We realize that seeing three large archaeological sites in one day is quite a challenge.

A car tour of the Rethymno area

A car tour of the Rethymno area

Missing an idea for connecting tourist points on the map of Crete? Maybe a little tour around Rethymno? This is of course an option for people who have a hotel / guesthouse in the Rethymno area and have a rental car.

gość PiotrWie  Nie niestety a na szczęście bo by tłumy były cały rok.
 Turysta zmieni kierunek, zarobi Turek
Christian Arnidis - Moja Grecja  Reasonable Price to clue wydatków .
