Due to this year's long May holiday, we completely forgot to inform you that the Samaria Gorge has already been opened. So we're catching up.
Traditionally, the first two kilometers of the trail were made available from the southern entrance to the gorge. This option could be used as early as April 28. The opening of the northern entrance from Xyloskalo and the entire route leading through Samaria took place a few days later, on May 1.
However, before the opening, intensive work was carried out in the gorge for the last month and a half to renovate the infrastructure and secure the trail. Bridges, paths, balustrades were renovated and trees adjacent to the trail, which were considered a potential threat, were removed. The nets protecting against rock fragments were also repaired. These works will also be carried out, if necessary, during the tourist season.
We would also like to remind you that if you are going to Samaria, from 2022, tickets can also be purchased via the website https://samaria-tickets.necca.gov.gr/checkout
Fortunately, ticket prices have been maintained and, as in previous years, entry for an adult costs €5. You can check other prices on the website above.
At the same time, bus connections from Chania to Xyloskalo were launched, which will allow you to plan your own trip to the gorge. There are two trips in the morning, and buses depart from Chania Station at 5:00 and 7:45. From Xyloskalo to Chania, the bus leaves at 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. There is also a bus from Sougia, which leaves at 7:00 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. (after the ferry from Agia Roumeli arrives).
