Greek cuisine in the TasteAtlas ranking

What are your favorite traditional dishes? This is the question TasteAltas, one of the most popular culinary websites, asked its readers. Based on the collected answers, a ranking of the best traditional dishes in the world was published. On this list, in addition to many exotic dishes, there are also nine Greek dishes. Which ones do you think made it to this list?

Interestingly, the highest place among Greek dishes in this ranking was taken by delicious grilled ribs, i.e. paidakia. They ranked 15th, which is certainly a big surprise, because paidakia is not a particularly popular dish in tourist establishments.

Another dish is known to most people visiting Greece. It will not be a surprise if we write that it is a popular pytagyros, which was ranked 31st. This is one of the most famous Greek dishes, which is included in the canon of local street food. Pieces of meat with vegetables and tzatiki are served in pita bread, and nowadays french fries are also a frequent addition.

The 36th place belongs to giouvetsi, which is a one-pot dish resembling a casserole made of meat, small pasta and aromatic tomato sauce.

Other Greek dishes that the readers of TasteAtlas gave in their answers were cod fried in batter (41), traditional Greek tripe or kokoretsi (51), which is wound on a skewer and grilled. The popular souvlaki took 59th place, and the delicious yemista, or stuffed vegetables, took 61st place. The last two dishes that appeared on this list are stifado (87), which can be compared to goulash, and fried calamari (98).

How do the cuisines of other countries fare in this ranking? The list includes as many as 14 dishes from Italian cuisine, 12 from Japan and 11 from Turkey. Only two dishes appeared from Polish cuisine: pierogi ruskie (16) and pork chop (66).

Barbara gemista to też zdecydowanie jeden z naszych wyborów. Chętnie ją zamawiamy będąc na Krecie, ale również chętnie robimy ją sami w domu :)

Jagniece żeberka to u mnie podstawa przy pobycie w greckiej tawernie. Kolejne to kleftiko (kawałki jagnieciny, warzywa pieczone w cieście filo lub pergaminie). I poprawcie mnie czy noga jagnięca w papirusie to też kleftiko? A w czadie zwiedzania oczywiście gyros pita, u mnie moze, zastąpić ciepły posiłek na cały dzień.
