Last Wednesday in the afternoon, the squares of the main cities of Crete filled with empty chairs. They were arranged in evenly ordered rows at increased distances between each other. Through this action, the island joined the Greek protest of "empty chairs" organized by the gastronomy, food and entertainment industries. In this way, companies in these sectors want to point out that they also face huge financial problems caused by the coronavirus epidemic. Thousands of entrepreneurs accumulate debts every day, and yet they do not receive government support.
Empty chairs were exhibited both in Chania on the square in the Venetian Port, in Heraklion on the Square of Lviv and in front of the Venetian Loggia, as well as in Ierapetra on the territory of the Kales fortress. On the chairs were stuck cards with the names of the professions, which were directly affected by the effects of economic closure. In Crete alone, 30,000 people are employed in the catering industry. Without actions and assistance from the state, the employees were completely without work and livelihood, while the companies employing them all the time bear the financial costs of maintaining the premises.

In addition to effective and immediate assistance from the state, the organizers of the protest also demanded, among others suspension of tax liability for 4 months, reduction of VAT, coverage of insurance and pension contributions by the state and increase of the financial limit of tax-exempt income.
