The global culinary guide Taste Atlas has published a new ranking of the 50 best hard cheeses in the world. Many fans of traditional Italian products may be surprised by this year's results, as Greek products took first and third place. Six other cheeses produced in Greece also made the list.
Naxos Graviera took first place in the ranking, earning it the official title of the best hard cheese in the world. Critics and consumers alike were captivated by its distinctive, deep flavor. This success is directly attributable to its unique recipe: a base of local cow's milk with a delicate blend of sheep's or goat's milk. Anyone who has had the opportunity to try Naxos Graviera will surely remember its exceptionally delicate flavor.
Italian Parmesan, previously considered by many to be the perennial leader in such rankings, had to settle for second place. Right behind it, in third place, was another Greek accent – the well-known Cretan graviera .

The top five was rounded out by kefalogriaviera, another delicious Greek hard cheese, pushing the popular Italian pecorino into fourth place.
The success of graviera from Naxos and Crete isn't the only Greek influence on the Taste Atlas rankings. Other cheeses from the region also have a strong presence in the top fifty:
• Metsovone – 6th place (cheese produced in the Epirus region)
• San Michalis – 11th place (cheese from the island of Syros)
• Ladotyri from Mytilene – 14th place (olive cheese from the island of Lesbos)
• Gruyère Agrafon – 16th place (from the Agrafa mountain region)
• Kefalotiri – 21st place
