The Sima Stone Bridge, located in the Prasses area on the road from Rethymno to Amari, has been considered the highest stone bridge in Crete for over a century . Its distinctive silhouette, formed by three arched spans supported by high pillars, rises above the rocky Kaminolakos gorge and, at the time of its construction, was a true engineering marvel . Unfortunately, even the most charming works of the ancient builders must contend with the brutal prose of the 21st century. Sima Bridge is no longer sufficient for the demands of modern traffic between Amari and Rethymno.

Construction of a new bridge has begun right next to the historic structure, designed to divert traffic. This will transform the old stone bridge into a historical landmark, accessible to pedestrians. Instead of being a through road, it will become an architectural monument that can be admired without rushing or honking.
Despite the authorities' assurances that the new structure will not obscure, but rather "highlight" and protect, the historic structure, the very fact that it was built right next to the majestic silhouette of Sim's Bridge is generating considerable controversy. After all, nothing saves a monument from destruction like separating it from reality. It is certain that the new bridge will obscure the historic structure and forever change the character of the area's landscape.
The Sima Bridge, built on the southern side of Mount Vrysinas, is a masterpiece of dry masonry. Its construction was far from straightforward. Planning for the road connection to the Amari province took years, and construction, begun in 1910, quickly encountered problems. The first contractor was disqualified, and the signed contract was invalidated. The bridge was ultimately completed by a subsequent contractor after 1912 (some sources indicate 1915–1916).
The construction of the new crossing is just one part of a much broader and, admittedly, costly undertaking. The entire project falls under the project titled " Rethymno-Apostoloi-Mandres Road Axis, Rethymno-Potamon Dam Section ." The project also includes modernization and re-routing of approximately six kilometers of the route.

Czy ten most jest w okolicach Moni Arkadi?
Tak mi się coś kojarzy.
Daleko i niedaleko jednocześnie, dojazd raczej okrężną drogą:
