Last Friday, October 31st, the 2025 tourist season officially ended in the Samaria Gorge. According to data provided by the Organization for the Environment and Climate Change (OFYPEKA), the gorge was open to tourists for a total of 151 days this year, with a recorded number of visitors of 119,138 .
It's impossible to ignore the fact that this year's attendance figures are the lowest in the last four years . Compared to the record attendance in 2022 (nearly 170,000 visitors), this year saw a significant drop of almost 30% .
This is likely due to imposed capacity limits, numerous closures due to forecasted extreme weather events, and internal park management restrictions. It's also worth noting that admission prices to the gorge have increased by 100% this season, which may also have contributed to the reduced attendance.
The average daily attendance this year was approximately 789 visitors , which is significantly lower than the limits set by the authorities. It should be noted that after the fatal accident last September, it was decided for safety reasons that no more than 1,000 people could enter Samaria per day.
