Several young people will certainly remember their trip to the highest peak in Crete for a long time. Last Friday, when a group of five men aged 21-26 began their escapade, unfortunately none of them anticipated any potential difficulties. A lack of imagination resulted in the disregard of basic rules of moving along mountain trails and the necessity of spending two nights on the mountaintop.
When the group reached the highest point of Psiloritis, there was a sudden deterioration in weather conditions, which literally trapped the group on the mountain and made it impossible to descend. Due to very bad weather and strong wind, the men took shelter in a small chapel located on the peak. Unfortunately, the team went to the mountains completely unprepared, without the necessary supplies and clothing suitable for bad weather conditions. Fortunately, they did not lose the ability to communicate, thanks to which they were able to alert the services about their location. Due to the very strong wind, the force of which reached up to 10 on the Beaufort scale, it was impossible to use a helicopter, which would have transported the unlucky ones to the lower areas of the massif.
This morning, a foot rescue operation was organized, in which a total of 7 rescuers took part, including two firefighters from Rethymno. In order to reach the people trapped on the peak, the rescue team had to climb the mountain from the southern side of the massif from the direction of the village of Lochria, because the northern slopes of the mountain are icy and, in addition, there is still thick fog.
According to the latest information provided in the afternoon, the rescue operation was successful. The men were found in good condition and brought to a safe place. Unfavorable weather conditions continue to prevail on Psiloritis.

Magdalena Tokarska Praktycznie, to Kreta składa się z: Balosa, Falasarny, Lafonisi, hotelu i lotniska.
I tak już zrobiłem rezerwację na przyszły rok. Trudno, jakoś przetrwam te 2 tygodnie.

Artur Kiwa A czemu nie wierzysz? Przecież na Krecie to praktycznie nie ma gór, nie?
Wiecie może czy to byli miejscowi czy ktoś z zagranicy? Bo lokalsi chodzą często dość nieodpowiedzialnie, na wprost zamiast po szlakach. Ale nigdy nie widziałem jak chodzą w okresie zimowym - może trochę bardziej odpowiedzialnie niż jesienią i wiosną.
To byli Kreteńczycy. Pewnie gdyby to byli turyści to w mediach zostałoby to wyraźnie zaznaczone ;)
No to widać cały czas chodzą niezbyt odpowiedzialnie ( choć u nas też się to często zdarza, pewnie bardziej jest to związane z wiekiem niż z narodowością. Kreteńczy są bardzo sympatyczni i uczynni, ale często widywałem grupki z niewielkimi zapasami wody za to z raki. A swoją drogą dobrze że przetrwali - my praliśmy na Psiloritisie pod koniec sierpnia i było tak zimno że spaliśmy we wszystkim co mieliśmy - łącznie z kurtkami przeciwdeszczowymi. Fakt - śpiwory mieliśmy typowo na Kretę - takie powyżej 5 stopni na plusie. Ale oni nie mieli nic.
