Even though the tourist season in Crete is just getting started, the numbers given by Nikos Chalkiadakis, president of the Hoteliers' Association in Heraklion, are impressive. Crete's good streak continues and everything indicates that this holiday, if nothing changes, will be an opportunity to break further records of the island's popularity.
According to Chalkiadakis, nearly 100% of the hotels on the island are currently open, and their occupancy rate is around 60-70%, which is a very good result for the first decade of May. In the area of Agios Nikolaos and Elounda, where the most expensive hotels in Crete are located, 90% of hotels have been opened and the occupancy rate is approximately 70%. The tourism industry is full of optimism, although the constant problem of lack of hotel staff keeps us awake at night.
We would like to remind you that the problem of employee shortage was significantly deepened by the pandemic, during which hotels were closed for a long time and restrictions imposed on travelers discouraged them from traveling. Then, a large part of hotel employees retrained and found employment in other sectors. Attempts are currently underway to bring these people back to hotels, but we personally doubt the effectiveness of these actions.
The Ministry of Tourism is also trying to remedy the notorious shortage of workers in the tourism industry by focusing on educating new young staff. However, we will have to wait for the effects of this action. Unfortunately, irregularities in the operations of some hotels discourage people from undertaking this work. There are repeated complaints about problems with employee insurance, lack of days off and excessive work intensity.

I bardzo dobrze, Ci wspaniali ludzie zasługują na prosperite.
Kolejne rekordy to obraz coraz większego overtourismu Krety.
