Finally, after many months of uncertainty about freshwater resources, the situation in Crete is slowly starting to improve. After recent very rainy days, the amount of water in the Aposelemi Dam reservoir has exceeded 5.6 million cubic meters. Water from the Lassithi Plateau flows into the reservoir at a speed of 25,000 to 50,000 m 3 . If the intense rains continue until Wednesday or Thursday, according to Vangelis Mamagakis, director of hydraulic projects of the Organization for the Development of Crete, water supplies in the dam will exceed 8 million cubic meters of water.

If the accumulated amount of water exceeds 10 million m3 , it will be possible to increase the supply of fresh water to the municipalities of Heraklion, Hersonissos and Agios Nikolaos from 15,000 m3 of water per day to 30-40,000 m3 per day. These restrictions were introduced in May last year when the Aposelemi reservoir filled below 35%. The dam was built to hold a maximum of 30 million cubic meters of water. Although this year's winter brought snow only in the highest parts of the mountains, rain is equally valuable, which will hopefully allow us to rebuild the supplies of priceless drinking water in Crete.

No cóż, z tradycją nie wygrasz.
