There will be better access to Knossos

Everything indicates that in the near future tourists visiting Heraklion and the inhabitants of the capital of Crete themselves will be able to get to Knossos more comfortably. According to the proposals that have been appearing for a long time, the municipal KTEL is to make an appropriate correction of the route of bus line 02 so that the beginning of the route is not in the vicinity of the port, but in the vicinity of the airport. Such a change would allow the use of more convenient transfers not only for passengers disembarking from planes, but also for intercity bus passengers coming from the region of eastern Crete.

The proposal for such a change has been reported by local residents for a long time. The municipal KTEL agreed to this request and applied for obtaining the appropriate permits. Public consultations are still ongoing. After the full procedure is completed, detailed technical aspects related to the modification of the route are to be determined. At that time, the frequency of running and whether the extended route will be carried out as part of all courses or only selected ones will be determined.

It is worth emphasizing that bus line number 2 is not only of great importance for servicing tourist traffic, but also for the inhabitants of Heraklion. Its route passes a very important hospital facility, which is the Venizelio Hospital. It is a place where about 1,000 people work. There are also over 400 hospital beds. Therefore, it should not be surprising that a much more favorable course of the route is a step in the right direction also in this case.
