Mountain running Samaria Run and Omalos Run this Saturday

Next Sunday, May 28, 2023, the Greek Mountaineering Association in Chania is organizing the eleventh mountain run Samaria Run 2023 and the first mountain run Omalos Run.

The Samaria Run route was marked out in the Samaria National Park. It is basically a half-marathon, because runners will have to cover over 21 km. The start was set on the Omalos plateau four kilometers from the entrance to the gorge. The competitors will initially run along the road, and then the designated route leads around the National Park. After completing a large circle around the gorge, the end of the run will be at Xyloskalo.

Volunteers from the Mountaineering Association will support the runners along the route in eight designated points. Each edition of Samaria Run attracts many competitors, so this year there will certainly be a lot of interested people at the start.

Also on Sunday, the Omalos Run will take place for the first time. It is a much shorter and easier run, and its route is 7 kilometers long. As in the case of Samaria Run, the start of the run was set on the Omalos plateau and the finish in Xyloskalo. The route of this run has been marked out along country and field roads.

If any of you are runners and would like to take part in these competitions, the website of the Association www.eoshanion.gr/samaria-run contains a detailed description, rules, forms with the procedure for submitting participation and other useful information about both runs.

Participation applications will be accepted until Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the latest, only when a competitor registers on-line via the website: events.eoshanion.gr/el/events . No applications will be accepted after this date.
