The August full-moon, which is the largest full moon in the year, has been an opportunity in Greece for many years to make archaeological sites, museums and other monuments available for free visiting during the night hours. And it just so happens that the biggest full moon is today. So if you are currently in Greece, it is worth taking the opportunity to, for example, visit the excavations in the moonlight or take part in other events organized in many places.
On Friday, August 12, 2022 throughout Greece, 105 different archaeological sites, monuments, museums will welcome visitors in the late evening hours. Additionally, 50 of them will host various artistic events, concerts, theater and dance performances, poetry evenings, shows or guided tours. Many of these events are prepared in cooperation with local governments and clubs, and all are coordinated by the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage.
At the link below, you can download the full schedule of scheduled events organized in Greece.
In western Crete, one of the most interesting events will be the Rokkas Festival, i.e. the concert of Evanthia Reboutsik. This concert will take place at the Rokka archaeological site near Kissamos on a specially constructed stage at the foot of a characteristic rock. As soon as the moon appears between the hills, sounds will flow, and the view of the archaeological site and Rocca gorge will add mysticism to them. If any of you would like to watch it but cannot get there, the organizer will stream the concert at this link.

Other musical events in Crete will take place at the excavations at Tylissos, Gortyn, the Minoan palace in Malia, the Minoan cemetery in Armenia and the gardens of the Heraklion Archaeological Museum. Details can be found in the schedule linked above.
