A contract will be signed in Rethymno tomorrow to revitalize seven streets in the city. This project is intended to complement the work carried out previously in the renovation of Kountourioti and Moatsou Streets. Both streets are the main east-west communication routes in the city center. The total budget of this investment is over € 1.2 million. It will be financed under the European Regional Development Fund.
The reconstruction is to include streets such as: Daskalaki, Hatzidaki, Kazantzaki, Askoutsi, Prevelaki, Siganou and Kastrinaki. The total length of all repaired roads is approximately 800m. Together with pedestrian routes, the total area of the revitalized area amounts to approx. 9 thousand square meters. square meters. The main assumption of the project is, apart from the renovation of the road surface itself, to improve the movement of pedestrians, including the disabled. A detailed list of works can be found below:
demarcation and laying of new sidewalks
construction of infrastructure enabling the free movement of disabled people (e.g. construction of ramps for prams, marking out special parking spaces)
setting out a new bicycle path on Askoutsi Street
designation of pedestrian crossings
installation of new lighting
assembly of small architecture, including, for example, litter bins
marking out places for planting trees and flowers
We are glad that the city authorities in Crete are also starting to recognize the needs of people who move around on foot or by bike. For many years, city centers, dominated by the requirements of car traffic, have become less and less friendly to both residents and tourists. This is especially important in the case of disabled people, for whom narrow sidewalks are bristling with absurd height curbs. they were virtually impassable barriers. Fortunately, the situation is slowly changing and we hope that this trend will gain momentum in the future.
Gosia | crete.pl To byli Kreteńczycy. Pewnie gdyby to byli turyści to w mediach zostałoby to wyraźnie zaznaczone ;)
