Early opening of Greece. Will it be a good year?

Everything indicates that the tourist season in Greece will start earlier this year than before. For the last two years, we were dealing with an emergency, because the lockdown made travelers had much less time at their disposal to carry out their travels. In 2020, the beginning of the season did not take place until July, in 2021 the opening to tourists theoretically took place in mid-May, but in practice, tourists appeared much later. If no Armageddon stands in the way , Greece is to be open in 2022 and ready to receive travelers from March.

Chania in the 2019 season

Such announcements appeared in an interview given to Action24 by Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias. The minister said Greece is currently working hard to extend the tourist season in 2022 beyond the traditional summer months. The early start of the season could be a harbinger of this. " I asked everyone, regional and city authorities, hoteliers, businessmen, traders to be ready by March because people will come to Greece earlier this year and will be leaving late ."

Kikilias would also like this year's season to end even later than in 2021 and last until December. The plans of the Ministry of Tourism for the development of alternative tourism, including spa, wellness and medical tourism, are to help in the implementation of this plan, which will help fuel tourist traffic from Northern European countries.

According to the minister, the investments made and the modernization of accommodation facilities are to attract travelers at any time of the year. Particular efforts are directed at tourists from France and Israel.

Kikilias added that Greece is also strengthening ties with Arab countries, trying to attract very wealthy tourists to it. According to the minister's announcement, Greece will also allow one-day trips by boat from Turkey to Mytilene, Chios, Samos, Kos and Rhodes. Finally, Kikilias expressed his belief that 2022 will be a good year. From the first days of the new year, the number of hotel reservations has risen sharply. The demand for slots for airlines is also growing.

The head of the TUI Group confirms

The head of TUI Group, Fritz Joussen, also says explicitly that he is expecting a strong summer and the demand for travel is high in all markets, which is confirmed by the strong booking dynamics. According to published reports for the first month of 2022, new bookings now exceed pre-pandemic booking levels.

Earlier this year, at a meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Joussen announced that TUI will double its clients to Greece this year compared to the previous year.

There is pent-up demand among customers. We see this in all European source markets. Every step towards normalcy gives people confidence and the demand for a vacation is growing immediately , ”said Joussen.

All these announcements will surely please those who would like to finally spend their next vacation in Greece. For a large part of people it would be a return after a long absence due to various handicaps during a pandemic. Nevertheless, the prices that hotels, travel agencies and airlines will surely serve will turn out to be a spoon of tar. It must be remembered that the last two years have been extremely ruthless for the tourism sector, and the first normal season will be an opportunity to repair leaky budgets.

W Jeorjopouli montowali parasole kilka dni temu. No jestem ciekawa czy teraz będą demontować.
To znaczy, że z Falasarny znikną baldachimy do leżenia? Trochę rewolucja.
