This time, due to the weather front aptly named Elpida (Ελπίδα, meaning hope), it became white in various regions of Greece. Most of the area of Crete, part of the Aegean islands and the northern Dodecanese, eastern central Greece are covered with snow. Locals say that the last time such amount of snow fell on the Cyclades decades ago. Apart from snow, Elpida brought low temperatures for Greece and strong winds. Such a weather compilation was synonymous with a whole series of difficulties.

In Crete, so far snow has appeared only in higher-situated villages and mountainous areas. This time, thanks to Elpida, he also reached low-lying regions. Even in Heraklion has turned white from noon. Additionally, from Monday in the area of Crete, stormy winds with a strength of 8 to 9 on the Beaufort scale are expected. All services are on high alert and special warnings have been issued to residents.

Due to the difficult weather conditions, anti-skid chains are mandatory on some roads in Chania and Lassithi. Some roads in the Prefecture of Rethymno and Heraklion have been excluded from traffic due to heavy snowfall.
