South Crete offers many hidden spots. Only determined hunters of Cretan "treasures" are to arrive here. One of such places is Vathi Beach , which you can see in the video by Nikos Sarantos below . It is located far from urban centers in the southernmost point of Crete called Cape Lithino .
The beginning of the road to this beach is marked by the Odigitrias Monastery . From this point on, the road to Vathi is gravel and requires a car that can endure the hardships of a ten kilometer journey over potholes. At the end of this road, you will find yourself in a fabulous place. With a bit of luck, you'll be the only "explorers" here. However, if you are not lucky, you will have to share this beautiful piece of Crete with a few other people who may spend their holidays here in a tent or in motorhomes.
Vathi is situated in a natural bay that centuries ago was a haven for pirates during storms. The bay, well protected from winds, makes the water almost always calm here. It is only threatened by the wind blowing from the south-west. Sand, a few tamarisks growing by the beach create a little paradise on earth. It is a beautiful landscape of white limestone rocks combined with the insane color of the sea. Vathi is the perfect place for people looking for peace and respite from the hustle and bustle.
