Plastic rubbish is currently one of the most important problems faced by the modern world. Plastic products floating in the seas and washed up on the beaches by the waves are a consequence of, among other things, the dramatic abuse of this type of product in recent decades. Today, plastic accounts for as much as 95% of floating waste in the Mediterranean Sea. The proverbial plastic straws or bottles are only one side of the coin. The other side are plastic toys and disposable gadgets bought during the holidays and lost or intentionally thrown away by tourists. It is during the holiday season that the amount of marine litter increases by 40%.
The sea shore is strewn with rubbish. Pachia Ammos Beach.
About 8 million tonnes of plastic end up in the seas and oceans each year. To imagine this amount, it can be assumed that every minute the contents of one garbage truck is thrown into the sea. If this pace is maintained, more plastic litter will float in the seas by 2050 than fish. Therefore, any action to reverse this trend is very valuable and deserves publicity.
The municipality of Chania is currently participating in the Mediterranean Cleaning program, which takes place in 11 Greek ports. It is a plastic waste-free action in the Mediterranean, involving the Cretan ports of Souda, Chania and NeaChora. Five trawlers set out from the Souda itself, pledged to clear the sea floor of thousands of kilograms of plastic. After being caught, plastic garbage will be sent for recycling. T-shirts are to be made from the collected plastic bottles, and carpets, socks and bathing suits are to be made from used fishing nets.
Another Cretan beach with plastic garbage thrown by the sea. Agios Panteleimonas Beach.
As emphasized by the Cretan authorities, there is no time to postpone further action, it is necessary to act here and now. It is important that under the Mediterranean Cleaning program, such cleaning of the sea will be carried out constantly.

Pachia Amos ma pecha. To kwestia lokalizacji i prądów morskich. Byliśmy trzy razy na tej plaży i zawsze były na niej plastikowe śmieci, niestety☹️
