The Greeks support the fight against a pandemic

The example of many people shows that the period of the fight against coronavirus is not only a time of increasing restrictions on many basic daily activities, but also a time when you can show your solidarity with medical staff, i.e. those who are leading the fight against this pandemic. In Greece, many institutions and private companies are also joining the fight against coronavirus. It is worth mentioning that today the Aegean Airlines plane landed at the airport in Athens, which brought from China very much needed medical supplies at the moment.

This flight was possible thanks to close cooperation of airlines and fuel industry companies. Aegean Airlines lent one of its Airbus A320 aircraft, which was specially adapted for the occasion of cargo type transport. On the other hand, EKO and HELPE covered the costs of fuel that was used during over a 10-hour flight.

Another example of involvement in activities to combat coronavirus is the production of protective masks, which is implemented at the University of the Mediterranean in Crete. Their production was undertaken by the local Precision Engineering Laboratory in cooperation with other departments. For the time being, the first 20 units have been manufactured and have already been handed over to the medical staff of the two hospitals in Heraklion.

Protective masks are created using modern 3D printers, which use special polymers in the production process. The big advantage of this substance is ease of sterilization, as well as the fact that they are certified for use in medicine.

As part of the fight against coronavirus, grassroots social movements are also being created in Crete to support the most vulnerable. Among other things, a Distribution Team was established in Heraklion, whose main goal is mutual assistance that the city's residents can provide to each other. People involved in this action are to deal with, among others, providing food to all those who cannot leave the house for various reasons. In particular, it concerns seniors and persons subject to compulsory quarantine.
