It has long been known that some of the beaches particularly popular with tourists are struggling with the problem of the excessive number of people arriving at the peak of the holiday season. Every now and then, various types of proposals appear to improve this situation. Unfortunately, to date, none of these initiatives has been turned into real action. Today another article about the Elafonisi beach has been published on the local newspaper site Haniotika Nea.
The existing wild car park is located in the immediate vicinity of the beach
that is, within the protected area
Following earlier suggestions to introduce a fee to enter this beach, the possibility of liquidating the wild car park that was built in the Elafonisi area is currently being considered . According to the article, the main purpose of this project would be to remove private vehicles from the protected area. As announced, all cars will be able to be left in a large, newly created parking lot, which should accommodate up to 2.5 thousand. vehicles.
The implementation of this project will largely depend on the cooperation of two neighboring municipalities: Kissamos and Kantanos-Selino, in which Elafonisi is located. One of the first stages will be the expropriation of current land owners and their purchase. The authorities of both municipalities hope that this year will also be able to create the parking lot mentioned earlier. It is also planned to launch a bus service that would facilitate the movement of tourists between the beach and parking lot.
The authorities of both communes also announce that as part of the work carried out, the management of deckchairs located on Elafonisi would be improved. New toilets and two beach bars will also be built within the beach.

It is difficult to assess how the work will look and in what direction they will go. In recent years, the cooperation of both municipalities has been very different and in most cases can be described as quite difficult. Income from renting sunbeds was a special bone of contention. The dispute arose against this background, it had very different faces: ranging from the devastation of equipment and ending with a several-year court battle.
For this reason alone, we look at verbal declarations that appear on the part of local government authorities. Mayor Kissamos in an interview for Xaniotka Nea announced that by introducing these changes: " We are not interested in profit, but only the natural environment. We want to keep this beach for future generations in every respect . " We hold the word, mayor.

Znaczy przeludnienia to nie rozwiąże ale z pewnością wspomoże budżet. Ludzie bedąparkowac na drodze dojazdowej , pewnie dojdzie do jakiś wypadków.

Nie będzie potrzeby parkowania przy drodze. Tak jak napisaliśmy ma powstać nowy parking na 2,5 tys, miejsc ale dalej od plaży poza obszarem chronionym. A czy w ogóle dojdzie do likwidacji dzikiego parkingu czas pokaże.
