A very interesting study entitled 'Polish Chamber of Tourism' website ( www.pit.org.pl ) has been published. Holiday customs of Poles - Foreign holidays of Poles 2019 . This is a kind of report summarizing last year's vacation season from the perspective of travel agencies. At the beginning it is worth noting that, like last year, Greece was the most popular destination for Poles' foreign trips abroad . The leader position was maintained despite strong pressure from Turkey, which fought for the first place for almost the entire tourist season.
This year, roughly every fourth tourist using the services of travel agencies has chosen Greece as the destination of their vacation. About 21% of people benefited from rest in Turkish hotels. Compared to last year, the difference in the share in the Polish organized travel market dividing both countries has clearly decreased. To a large extent, it is the result of very different growth dynamics. On the one hand, the strongly growing position of Turkey, which increased the number of tourists from Poland by over 36%, and on the other hand, the clearly decreasing popularity of Greece, which this year attracted nearly 20% less tourists from Poland.
It is highly probable that this trend will continue in the coming year. After a few definitely weaker years, Turkey not only returns to the catalogs of travel agencies for good, but also rebuilds the position of the holiday destination in the minds of Polish tourists. This country also perfectly meets the needs for relatively cheap All Inclusive stays implemented in hotels categorized for a minimum of four stars.
Turkey's offer perfectly fits the preferences of Polish tourists, who in the vast majority expect that the purchased trip will be a comprehensive product. This is perfectly visible in the data presented by PIT. Last year, as much as 81.2% of trips sold through Polish travel agencies had All Inclusive food . From year to year, the percentage share of trips that only offer breakfasts and dinners is reduced. During this year's season, HB boarding only covered less than 12% of trips sold.
The deepening of this trend is not surprising. The decreasing number of people using the options of other dining options is certainly due to the increasing availability of cheap flights to typical holiday destinations. People showing much greater independence in learning about regional flavors are probably the vast majority of people who currently compose their own holiday trips.
The report prepared by the PIT also confirmed that at the moment the peak of holiday trips cannot indicate the month, which is particularly preferred by tourists. In the period from June to September, the percentage spread of shares ranges from 23 to 27%. It is worth emphasizing here that September is almost as popular among tourists as July. It is clear that the definition of low season now includes such months as May or October.
Finally, it is worth emphasizing that despite the weakening position of Greece on the Polish organized travel market, Crete still maintains the second position among the most popular regions and cities . This year, just like last year, it was overtaken only by the Turkish Riviera.
The report , which became the source of the study published by PIT, was prepared on the basis of data collected by the three largest online multiagents: fly.pl, travelplanet.pl andoliday.pl. In the source article you will find more detailed information on the preferences of Polish tourists. It is worth to look there, because some of them may be useful when making your own holiday choices.
