Mineral water for Spili

Being in Crete, you have certainly noticed that the mineral waters available in stores are usually associated with specific regions or places in Crete. It is worth mentioning such recognizable brands as Samaria , Zaros, Rouvas or Sitiako. In the coming years, Spili will also join the group of these producers, whose authorities at the last general assembly of residents adopted a resolution on the construction of a bottling plant for mineral water.

According to initial assumptions, the commune will not be a direct shareholder of the newly established enterprise. According to the information provided by Mr Tatarakis, Mayor of Spila, the value of this investment is estimated at around € 2 million. This amount would be entirely provided by an investor interested in the implementation of this project. At present, only one entrepreneur has declared willingness to implement it. The commune authorities, however, suppose that after the official announcement of these plans, more entities will be willing to proceed with their implementation.

The new water brand will have a trade name clearly referring to its origin. The graphic elements on the label placed on the bottle are also to refer to the characteristic fountain with the heads of Venetian lions.

The resolution passed by the municipal authorities also included provisions that in the future should guarantee benefits for the whole community resulting from the presence of this bottler. One of the most important is the recruitment of the majority of the staff (except for the scientific staff) among the residents of the commune. The resolution also included a provision stating that in periods of shortages or interruptions in the supply of water in the Spili commune, the mineral water produced by this bottling plant will be distributed free of charge to residents.
