The Cretan village of Anogia, located at the foot of the Psiloritis massif, has been included in the list of the Best Tourist Villages of 2024. The list was prepared by the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism).

In the fourth edition of this list, a total of 55 villages from around the world were distinguished, selected from 260 applications submitted by UN member states. The Best Tourism Villages UN Tourism initiative was established in 2021 and its aim is to promote tourism in rural areas. This program is also a way to highlight their cultural diversity as well as local values and culinary traditions.
UN Secretary-General for Tourism Zurab Pololikashvili said: “Tourism is an essential tool for integration, enabling rural communities to protect and appreciate their rich cultural heritage, while promoting sustainable development […]. We celebrate villages that have embraced tourism as a pathway to community empowerment and well-being, proving that sustainable practices can lead to a better future for all.”,
