5. Fire hazard level across the island

It is rare for Crete to declare a level 5 fire hazard for the entire island. However, according to published forecasts, such an exceptional situation will occur tomorrow.

Level 5 means that the risk of fire is extremely high, the number of expected fires will probably be large, and each of them can become large if not extinguished in time. The weather conditions that are expected in the coming days are heat and increasing wind. This is a dangerous combination that always favors fires.

Samaria Gorge to be closed on Sunday due to risk of fires

Due to the forecast, the Samaria Gorge will be closed on Sunday. At "5", there is also a preventive ban on movement and staying in strictly protected ecosystems, Natura areas, parks, groves and forests, and trails and other sensitive areas. Violating this ban may result in a fine of 300 euros.
