Hot Sunday and African dust in Crete

Today's readings from Greek weather stations showed that in 143 places the temperature exceeded 25 degrees Celsius. It is worth noting that the top eight towns with the highest values reaching nearly 30 degrees include 4 Cretan towns: Gortyna (29.1), Moni Toplou (29.1), Sitia (28.9), Siva (28, 4). The last Sunday of March was more like summer than the beginning of spring.

Unfortunately, as temperatures rose, a new wave of African dust reached Greece. Due to its location, Crete suffers the most from the effects of high dust concentrations. This time, these are not extreme values, the average daily value of the concentration of PM10 particles was 65 µg/m3. Dust particles are suspended at high altitude, so the main difficulty is poor visibility. Spring is the time when dust from the Sahara often moves over Greece, although this time it even reached Poland with the warm air.
