The symbolic beginning of winter in Crete

Just recently, we wrote about the 30-degree heat that prevailed in Crete at the end of October. Today, for a change, a slight dusting of snow on the highest peak of Crete - Psiloritis - was hailed as the symbolic beginning of winter. The amount of snow is small for now and, of course, it only occurs in the highest parts of the massif, which at its highest point is 2,456 m above sea level. In the lower regions of the island, there is no sign of winter yet, and the temperatures are very pleasant and exceed 20 degrees during the day. For the island's inhabitants, white Psiloritis is also a signal that it's time to start the countdown to Christmas.
