The third warmest October in Crete since 2010

This year's October in Greece was also much warmer than usual. According to data collected from 51 meteorological stations of the National Observatory in Athens, maximum temperatures fluctuated above normal values for most of the month. According to Kostas Lagouvardos, research director at the National Observatory in Athens, the regions with the largest deviations were Macedonia and Thrace (+3.5 points).

It is worth mentioning that no negative temperatures were recorded in all meteorological stations of the National Observatory in Athens, even in the highlands above 2,000 meters above sea level.
In Crete, the average maximum temperature in October 2023 was 1.6 degrees above normal. It was the third warmest October in Crete since 2010. There were days when the thermometers even exceeded 30 degrees.
If we analyze in detail what was happening on a daily basis in October 2023 in the 4 largest cities of Crete, it turns out that:

• In Chania, the temperature was higher than the average over the last decade on 19 of the 31 days of the month.
• In Rethymno, the temperature was higher than the average over the last decade on 24 of the 31 days of the month.
• In Heraklion, the temperature was higher than the average over the last decade on 19 of the 31 days of the month.
• In Agios Nikolaos, the temperature was higher than the average over the last decade on 28 of the 31 days of the month.
