The Agia Triada Tzagarolon Monastery is one of the most picturesque and at the same time most important monasteries in Crete. It is located on the Akrotiri peninsula, close to Chania and Daskalogiannisa airport. If anyone hasn't visited it yet, we highly encourage you to do so. Located among olive groves and vineyards that allow monks to produce olive oil and wine. This can be seen very well in the video that you can watch on our website.
In the place where the Agia Triada monastery was built, there was once another, smaller monastery. In 1611, the Venetian authorities of Chania commissioned its reconstruction to the monk Ieremias Tzagarolos, from an influential Venetian family. However, Ieremias decided to build a larger monastery complex in its place, according to his own design.
During the revolution of 1821, the monastery was burned by the Turks, which resulted in the destruction of many priceless manuscripts and relics. The destruction was removed only after Greece regained independence, and the monastery began to increase its fortune.
During World War II, the monastery was initially used by the Greeks to store supplies for the Navy. After the occupation of Crete by German troops, Agia Triada was also occupied by the occupier, who established an Anti-Aircraft Artillery School there.
