The fact that mountain trails in Crete can be treacherous can be proved by the example of a young man who yesterday decided to climb the highest mountain of Crete - Psiloritis. Unfortunately, not everything went according to his plan and the man got stuck in the mountains for the night. Despite the spring weather in the lower parts of the island, there is still snow in the mountains in many places, and the temperature can drop below zero at night. In addition, the snow cover turned into ice due to temperature fluctuations during the day. It was these conditions and, as you can guess, the lack of proper preparation for climbing that trapped the hiker in the mountains.

Fortunately, the man managed to get a mobile network coverage, which allowed him to call 112 and then call for help. 19 firefighters were immediately mobilized and a search and rescue operation began around 8 pm. The unlucky tourist was only located in the early hours of the morning near the Lakkos Migerou Plateau. From there, around 7:30 a.m., he was boarded by a helicopter that transported the man to Heraklion University Hospital. According to the latest information, his condition is good, although he is quite cold and weakened.

Spring in Crete is a good time for trekking or longer hiking trips in most cases. However, when setting out on the trail, you need to check the weather conditions on an ongoing basis, especially the temperature prevailing both during the day and at night. Although this year's winter there was not much snow, however, when you go to the higher parts of the mountains in early spring, you will definitely come across it. Hiking on a frozen mountainside in ordinary shoes is not only a bad idea, but also asking for trouble. When planning a temporary organization of such a trip, it is also worth bearing in mind that at this time of year the day is definitely shorter than in summer. Trails in Crete are sometimes not very legible even in daylight, so it may be impossible to navigate them at dusk or at night.

Patrząc na film wygląda że na wysokości Lakkos Mygreu jest śnieg, więc przynajmniej do końca kwietnia powyżej 1800 warunki będą zimowe.

Dziś jest niesamowita widoczność - po zewnętrznej stronie wyspy widzieliśmy większość Cyklady, a teraz z brzegu kaldery w Oi widać Kretę - z dużą plamą śniegu w masywie Gór Idajskich.
