Today, Sunday morning, the 2023 tourist season officially began in Chania. This symbolic beginning was marked by the first foreign planes of low-cost airlines, which landed at the airport at 10.30. On board were the first guests from Denmark and Germany. However, this is not the end, because today a total of 9 planes are to land at Daskalogiannisa Airport. In addition to the aforementioned flights from Denmark and Germany, planes also arrived from France, Cyprus, Poland and Romania. Guests from the UK will arrive on the final evening flight. Another twelve arrivals from various European countries are expected tomorrow.
The first guests will live not only in hotels or Airbnb apartments. Some of the passengers on these flights are also people with homes in Crete. Everyone agrees that they chose Crete because there is everything you need to be happy: friendly people, good weather and delicious food.
The coming days will bring an even greater increase in the number of flights, as the pre-Christmas rush in Greece is about to begin. Already, on many Greek islands, the number of hotel reservations and Airbnb facilities for the holiday season reaches 80-95%. In addition to visiting relatives, it is also a popular time for a short spring break. Industry entrepreneurs are sure that in some destinations the occupancy rate will reach even 100%.
It is worth emphasizing the rapidly growing popularity of Airbnb. 2022 was the best year ever, which was also felt by Greek hoteliers. A large part of their existing customers have chosen a different type of accommodation this time. The first months of 2023 already show that demand also remains at a high level. Most likely, this will reduce the number of people using the services of hotels and boarding houses to an even greater extent.
