Quick renovation of the runway at Heraklion airport

The first days of March at the airport in Heraklion were marked by renovation. In record time, the asphalt surface was replaced on 700 meters of the main runway. Currently, the final finishing works and cleaning are underway, and from next Monday from 6:00 am Nikos Kazantzakis Airport will return to full functionality. Fortunately, the weather was favorable and this time there will be no delays.

During the renovation, only the auxiliary runway of the airport was operational, which could only be used by helicopters and small turboprop aircraft of the ATR class, which carry no more than 80 passengers. Larger machines could use the airport in Chania and Sitia.

After this quick facelift, Heraklion Airport will be ready to receive international charter flights starting in the coming days. This symbolic start of the tourist season will begin on March 8 with Easyjet flights from England. A few days later, from March 11, the Greek carrier Aegean will launch flights to Germany, and from March 26, Lufthansa flights from Frankfurt and Munich will arrive at Heraklion Airport.
