Carnival in Crete is coming to an end

The last days of Carnival are a fun time for Crete. Traditionally, it is an opportunity to organize great street parties, during which great fun engulfs cities and towns.

This year's carnival events were very popular, and the good weather motivated people to go out even more. Even the wind did not prevent the Cretans from celebrating. The great interest is probably also due to the fact that the carnival parades were held for the first time since the pandemic. The several-year break in the organization of these events was caused by strict bans prohibiting gatherings.

This year, in Rethymno alone, where Cretan's largest parade is traditionally held, more than 16,000 participants took part. They created 32 different thematic groups, in which, of course, political accents could not be missing. Lots of people also came to just watch the parades and then got carried away by the carnival madness.

And tomorrow will be Clean Monday, which in Greece is a day off from work and the beginning of the 40-day fast.
