The snowless winter in Crete has changed its face thanks to the "Barbara" front. It brought with it a cool breeze and heavy snowfall. Initially, the bad weather was supposed to last until Tuesday, but "Barbara" decided to stay a little longer in Crete. Snowfall is expected tomorrow in both the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of the island.

More than 40 cm of snow has fallen on the Lassithi plateau so far. Higher in the mountains, the snow cover already exceeds 1 meter. Snow chains are required to travel on the roads within this plateau. In general, however, it is not recommended to travel to this area.
The Omalos Plateau in the White Mountains was one of the first areas to receive heavy snow this year. At the moment, the snow cover already exceeds the height of the windows in the buildings. It is almost impossible to move around in this area. And heavy snow removal equipment wasn't expected here until this afternoon.

The beautiful and wild Sfakia has been covered in snow since Tuesday morning. From the Krapi plateau to Imbros, vehicle traffic is almost impossible. Machines worked intensively during the day to clear the roads, but snowfall did not stop.
In many places, due to the difficult road conditions, the use of anti-skid chains on the wheels is mandatory. This is the case, for example, in the area of Anogia, the roads leading to Spili, Omalos, Theriso, Vryses-Askifou-Chora Sfakion, in part of the commune of Kantanos-Selino, or on the roads of the prefecture of Heraklion.
As usual, the most picturesque place in the winter scenery is Anogia, a village located in the vicinity of Psiloritis.
Tomorrow, due to the forecasted further snowfall and very difficult road conditions, many schools located in the higher parts of Crete will remain closed.

W Spili wczoraj i dziś były czarne drogi, jechaliśmy Mourne - Spili - Agia Galini i z powrotem. Bez łańcuchów

Crete Your Life to dobrze. Chociaż trzeba przyznać, że mimo tego całego "kłopotu" ten śnieg jest cholernie potrzebny Krecie. Zresztą my z miłą chęcią znów zobaczylibyśmy taką zimową Kretę :)

Crete Your Life tak jeśli chodzi o Spili to oczywiście chodzi o dojazd od strony północnego wybrzeża.
