It's official! It has just been confirmed that this year, after a three-year break caused by who knows what, another Matala Beach Festival will take place. Today, the official date of this largest musical event in Crete, organized at the foot of the famous rock with caves, has been announced. If you would like to take part in this unusual festival, book the 23rd, 24th and 25th of June. No details have been given yet, but it is worth noting that this year the Matala Beach Festival will be organized for the tenth time. So far, its organizers are quite mysteriously announcing a renewed and unique formula of the festival, which will offer participants much more than before.
However, the musical event is not everything. The festival is inextricably linked with the Matala Street Painting event, which this year will take place a week before the festival, on June 18. Then the streets of Matala will be covered with colorful and unique paintings.
The organizers announce that they will soon provide more information about the festival. For now, let's just remind you that its history dates back to 2011, when Arn Strohmeyer chose a small Matala as the place to present his book "Mythos Matala". This presentation was accompanied by concerts that referred to the nostalgic 1970s, when hippies lived in Matala. The slogan of returning to the past found fertile ground at that time and 35,000 people came here for the first event, and the number of participants grew rapidly every year.
Certainly, providing confirmed information about the re-organisation of the festival will result in a rapid increase in booking accommodation in Matala and its vicinity. If any of you would like to take part in the whole event, we advise you to book your accommodation as soon as possible.
The festival has its ardent admirers who, after three years of absence of the festival from the calendar of events organized in Crete, certainly appear in Matala on the last weekend of June.
