It might seem that December is not a "tourist" month. However, current data for Heraklion indicate that the last month of the year will become a record month for this city. Compared to 2021, the increase in tourist traffic in December is 100%, thus matching the result achieved in 2019. According to Nikos Chalkiadakis, president of the Hoteliers' Association, the current occupancy rate of hotels in Heraklion exceeds 60%. Even more popular are short-term rental offers, which have recently become a big competition for guesthouses and hotels.

As it turns out, Heraklion in winter is preferred mainly by Europeans, as well as by tourists from the USA. It can be expected that the intensity of tourist traffic will significantly strengthen in the Christmas and New Year period.

What contributed to the increase in popularity of the capital of Crete at the end of the year? First of all, good weather favors tourism at this time. Apart from a few episodes of weaker aura, pleasant temperatures oscillating around 17-20 degrees prevail. However, the most important decisive factor that allows international tourist traffic is the agreement signed with 11 airlines. It provides for connections to Crete between November and March next year.

If you follow the arrivals board of this airport, in addition to flights from Athens and other Greek airports, you will find information about planes flying from, among others, the Czech Republic, Malta and Switzerland. What a pity that it lacks information about flights from Poland.
