According to the data recently published by Eurostat (European Statistical Office), Greece was ranked third among the European Union countries in terms of the number of the cleanest coastal bathing areas. These data are provided by Eurostat with a delay, so they relate to 2021. However, it is safe to say that statistically 24 out of 25 Greek beaches boast excellent swimming water quality.
According to these figures, Greece saw only a slight decrease compared to the previous year, which does not change the fact that the results are impressive anyway. 95.8% of Greek bathing sites recorded excellent water quality. Only Croatia (99.2%) and Malta (96.6%) achieved better results. Water quality assessment is based on microbiological parameters, i.e. the presence of Enterococcus faecalis and Escherichia coli.
An EU directive adopted in 2006 requires Member States to assess the quality of all inland and marine bathing waters and classify them on a four-point scale (poor, sufficient, good and excellent).
On average, the quality of bathing water in Europe remains high. The share of excellent-quality waters in 2021 in the EU was 88.3%, while in the previous year it was 88.4%.

Gdyby tylko jeszcze kiepów nie było nawciskanych w piasek byłoby idealnie ;)
I by morze wyrzucało mniej plastiku na plażę. Niestety jest to problem ogólnoświatowy.
