This weekend, the Greeks celebrate their most important holiday, Easter. After two years of a pandemic and strict adherence to strict restrictions, this year's celebration is particularly buzzing as families can spend this special time together again. For the last two years, during the holidays, a ban on traveling and thus visiting relatives in the villages was introduced. This year, when there are no such restrictions, even high fuel prices did not stop the Greeks from traveling to their homeland.

Passover is a very family holiday, so the restrictions introduced in 2020 and 2021 hurt the Greeks especially. As the mayor of the Lassithi Plateau region said: Our villages have been flooded with people and our joy is great for that. Older people are not alone this year, they can all celebrate together .
The main cities of Crete were deserted, many people left for their native villages. Those who did not have the opportunity to leave celebrate on the spot.
In Agios Nikolaos, the impressive celebration of the Resurrection gathered real crowds. Not only local residents took part. The unique spectacle at Lake Voulismeni will surely be long remembered by many people.
Easter is also a special time attracting many tourists who want to feel the magic of the Greek Passover. For the last two years, traveling to Greece for holidays was also impossible, so nowadays there are many foreign visitors.
In some parts of Greece, tourist traffic in recent days has been even greater than in 2019, the last year before the pandemic. In most places, hotel occupancy varies between 70 and 100 percent.
The culminating moment wherever the festivities were held was the burning of the Judas effigy. [movieStd = 7DKc6acO57Y]
