The White White Mountains

Although it is still a long way to the real winter in Crete, the first signs of such an aura began to appear. Its symbolic symptom is the first snow that has just appeared in the higher parts of the Lefka Ori (White Mountains) mountains in western Crete.

In the central part of the island, in several of the higher villages of Heraklion Prefecture, heavy hail covered roads. In addition to the difficulties it caused on the roads, there is also a risk that it could damage olives that have not yet been harvested from the trees.

Fortunately, there is no winter in the lower parts of the island. During the day, temperatures fluctuate between 14 and 20 degrees, and at the end of November, local maximum values even reached 30 degrees. However, at present, strong stormy winds can be felt, which during this time of the year often ground ferries and ships in ports.
