Today finally, what everyone in Greece has been waiting for has been officially announced today. Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias announced the next steps to lift the restrictions that have been in force since November last year. This coming Friday, May 14, will bring some significant changes to the people of this country.
First of all, the obligation to send text messages before leaving home each time will be abolished. It was introduced in November when a second lockdown was announced in the country. The times when it is forbidden to move will also be changed. From May 14, this ban will apply from 0:30 to 5:00.
Another good news is that travel between Greek prefectures has been restored as of May 14. For six months, it has been possible only in strictly justified cases (usually business or health-related).
Unfortunately, certain conditions have been imposed for domestic journeys between the Greek mainland and the islands. It will be necessary to present a negative result of the PCR test, antigen test or self-test. The certificate of vaccination will also be a "pass", confirming that at least 14 days have passed after receiving the second dose. This will be a necessary requirement when traveling by plane or ship between the Greek mainland and the islands.
The required documents will be checked by airlines, ferry workers and shipping companies. According to the announcement, all travelers will be checked, both Greek residents and foreign guests. Only children under five will be exempt from this obligation. Only travelers traveling between the mainland and the islands of Lefkada, Evia and Salamina will be exempt from these restrictions.
Domestic trips to the islands under certain conditions
Retail stores will return to relatively normal operating modes. In these places, there will be a customer limit: 1 person per 25 sq m and the use of masks.
Also on May 14, museums are to be opened. Which will surely please those who plan to visit these places.
From June, it will be possible to organize weddings and baptisms again. For the time being, however, certain conditions will apply in this regard. These parties can be held outdoors and for a maximum of 100 people. Those who know what Greek weddings look like know that 100 people is just a very intimate party for the closest family.
