The lighthouse in Ierapetra will be built

Lighthouses are generally a very characteristic point of the city, often captured in tourist photos. The historical lanterns in Chania and Rethymno can serve as examples. Who among us does not have them in their collection of holiday photos….
It seems that in the future, these two famous Cretan lighthouses will be joined by one more, which will be built in the city of Ierapetra in the south of Crete. After yesterday's meeting of the mayor of this city with the minister of maritime and island policy, a grant of 300,000 euros was agreed for the construction of such a building.

It is already predicted that the lighthouse will become the emblem of the city, emphasizing the cultural identity and seaside character of Ierapetra. In addition, this structure will contribute to the creation of safe shipping and navigation conditions for the south-eastern region of Crete. It will certainly also become a place that will attract tourists.

The project of this lighthouse has not been shown yet, but we are already curious about it. We hope that it will fit into the historical part of this city.
