In the latest news on tourism and the pre-winter, we wrote that Greece has set a border date for opening up to mass tourism. If all goes to plan, the official start of the season is scheduled for May 14. Until then, there is still a lot of time the Greeks intend to use to refine and test their health procedures. As the Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis said, the Greek authorities are considering the possibility of opening the country's borders earlier. An "experimental" resumption of tourist traffic is planned for April 16. During this period, entry to Greece will probably be possible for tourists from Great Britain, Israel and Romania, countries with high vaccination rates.
The move would allow Greece to refine and test its opening strategy, which allows unrestricted entry for people with vaccination certificates confirming vaccination against covid-19 or a negative test result. The strategy for the trial opening of Greek borders would also include the implementation of updated health protocols in tourist destinations.
The Greeks, however, in their plans must take into account the views of the governments of those countries whose citizens would participate in the pilot opening. As Ben Wallace, the British defense minister, said in his country it is still too early to think about holiday reservations. In his words, the UK must avoid the possible situation where vacationers returning to the country bring with them viruses with vaccine-resistant mutations.
The opening of Greek tourism in May is necessary to achieve the target of 40-50% of the revenues recorded by Greece in 2019, when tourism generated € 18 billion. Christos Staikouras, Greek Finance Minister, expects tourism revenues to double in the coming season to € 8 million compared to last year. This plan, however, assumes that tourist traffic will be operational as early as June. The postponement of this deadline means huge losses that Greece cannot afford. A second year wasted would be disastrous for everyone.
Greek politicians do not hide that the vaccination certificate proposed by the Greek prime minister and approved by the EU will contribute to improving the condition of tourism not only in Greece but also throughout Europe. Data from online pre-bookings so far clearly show that Greece has a leading position as one of the most important tourist destinations this year.
According to the head of the German TUI, Crete is currently the most popular summer vacation destination. Rhodes and Kos take 3rd and 4th places respectively. This is significant information because so far the favorite of German tourists has been Majorca.
The digital green certificate, also known as the vaccination certificate, was officially presented on March 17 by the European Commission. Let us recall that the Greek Prime Minister was the first to make such a proposal in January, and now the official legislative proposal has been presented. This document is intended to facilitate travel for vaccinated people. The possibility of traveling as freely as possible could also be used by people with a negative result of the test, who would also not be subject to additional procedures during the journey.
The certificate is to be available in digital and paper format. It will contain a QR code confirming its authenticity. The Commission has announced the creation of a portal that will verify certificates throughout the EU. It is worth emphasizing, however, that this certificate is only to be introduced as a temporary measure to facilitate travel during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is planned to be suspended after the World Health Organization announces an end to the international health emergency caused by Covid-19.

Urszula Drahná Dlaczego? Poczekajmy na inne kraje. Podobno Turcja ma nie wymagać testów. Rok temu Bułgaria, Albania i Chorwacja tez bez testów.
