We wrote to you about this year's holiday season and arrivals to Greece in very specific conditions in the latest news posted on our website. Unfortunately, you didn't have to wait too long to find out what the flight service will look like in practice, where passengers will find people infected with coronavirus. This type of event occurred yesterday in the case of a Qatar Airlines flight from Doha to Athens. Among 91 passengers traveling on this plane, there were as many as 12 people with coronavirus infection.
According to the current protocol, all persons traveling on an unlucky flight, regardless of the result of the COVID-19 test, were subject to mandatory quarantine. For the time of compulsory isolation, travelers were accommodated in hotels that were previously assigned to perform this function. Subjects who fail the test will end the quarantine period after 7 days (provided that the previously repeated coronavirus test will give another negative result). Travelers with confirmed COVID-19 infection will have to spend up to 14 days in compulsory isolation.
The Greek central authorities also stated that due to the epidemiological situation all air connections to and from Qatar would be suspended. The flight ban will apply until June 15.
In recent weeks, articles devoted to the theme of this year's holiday trips and the situation in the broadly understood Greek tourism industry are appearing on our website quite often. Yesterday's events related to the flight Qatar Airlines clearly show how fragile this year's plans can be and how quickly the situation of air connections can change.
Time will tell if it is possible to repeat this scenario for other flights. Nevertheless, such a development should also be borne in mind when planning your holidays in Greece and beyond.
