Omalos - skiing lessons

We like the fact that for a long time there are more and more initiatives that break the deeply rooted stereotype that Crete is a perfect place only for summer vacation. This type of quite limited perception is present in the consciousness of a large proportion of tourists and local residents. One of the projects falling outside these frameworks are various types of regular meetings aimed at promoting skiing in Crete. The nearest event of this type, led by the slogan: "Take the children to the snow", will take place this weekend on the Omalos Plateau.

The fact that Crete can be used for various types of skiing can be seen in the video above, which is the account of five players from the Dynafit Team. In 2017, they went on a winter trip to the mountainous regions of Crete. They have perfectly combined the active way of exploring the wild areas of Crete with the time spent on a typical vacation.

The "Take children on snow" event will be organized under the patronage of the Greek Mountaineering Association (EOS Hanion - https://www.eoshanion.gr/en/ ). This weekend (15 and 16 February), ski lessons for children aged 8 to 16 will be held from 10am to 1pm. These classes will be carried out under the guidance of instructors and athletes with relevant experience confirmed by certificates. Although the classes are not free, the organizers announce that the payment will be symbolic. People without equipment will be able to rent it on site.

Finally, it is worth adding that the "Take the children to the snow" event is part of the events of this year's Greek Snow Week, which has been organized under the auspices of the FIS for the ninth year. Its main goal is to popularize winter sports in Greece.
