Loutro is one of the more picturesque towns located on the southern coast of Crete. Usually, during the period when tourism completely dies, this place is overcome by almost complete peace and quiet disturbed only by a few permanent residents. However, there are many indications that during the upcoming winter, life in Loutro will be much safer and much more visible. All this is due to a thorough renovation to be carried out on the streets and pavements in this town.
Manousos Chiotaki (Μανούσος Χιωτάκης) - the mayor of Sfakia announced that as part of a project whose cost is estimated at around 450,000 €, works related to the replacement of pavement surfaces and lighting installation will be carried out. The current work schedule provides that the implementation of this project should be completed before the beginning of next year's season, i.e. by the end of March at the latest.
Work related to this project will start this year. The first renovation teams are expected to visit Lutro after Christmas. In the following days, in fair weather, construction materials and heavier equipment are to be transported to the village.
Unfortunately, as part of the work performed, coastal revitalization will not be carried out. This part of Loutro will remain unchanged. However, the mayor of Sfakia assures that after completing all the works, the town will gain a new splendor, which should be appreciated by tourists visiting Loutro next year.
