This weekend, September 28-29, Cultural Heritage Days are celebrated in Europe. It is a socio-educational project initiated in 1985 by the Council of Europe, whose aim is historical and cultural education, promoting regional cultural heritage and emphasizing the common roots of European culture. The annual events are also aimed at encouraging greater tolerance for other cultures throughout Europe. The current 27th edition of this event will be celebrated in a total of 50 countries. This year's joint connecting theme is ' Arts and Entertainment '.
Why are we writing about this event? Because Greece and Crete are also taking part in this celebration. And one of the more attractive elements of this holiday is the possibility of free entry to many museum facilities as well as excavations and monuments. If anyone is currently in Crete or other places in Greece, we strongly encourage you to take this opportunity. In addition, around 100 locations throughout Greece have special events and events in which visitors can attend. In Crete, special attractions have been planned, among others Archaeological Museum and Historical Museum in Heraklion, Archaeological Museum and Forteza Firkas in Chania or Foretezza in Rethymno.
Greece has been participating in the Heritage Open Days since 1994.
