If someone likes to look at the stars, today in Crete has the last chance this year to look at them even more closely with a telescope. Today is the last open day in 2019 at the Skinakas astronomical observatory . In addition to observing the sky, it is also an opportunity to see how this place works.
The observatory can be visited from 18.00 to 23.00. First, it is planned to visit the observatory and get acquainted with the operation of the telescope, and then to view the indicated astronomical objects through the telescope. Due to the limited time and space, the presentations are conducted in Greek. Depending on the number of guests, there may also be short presentations in English. Due to the lower temperatures at the height at which Skinakas is located, it is worth taking warmer clothes with you. It should also be taken into account that there is a very limited number of seats. The large number of visitors means that the waiting time in the queue to visit can be up to over an hour. It is also worth considering the lack of public toilets and places offering food and drink.
Finally, we would like to just mention that by choosing here you will have the opportunity to cross one of the highest roads in Crete. Good quality asphalt road leads to the top of a 1750 m high hill
