Chania is one of the most popular cities in Crete. This should not come as a surprise, because many tourists are considered the most beautiful of Cretan cities . Last year's survey among tourist tourists in this part of Crete showed, however, that apart from the obvious advantages, Chania also has its own problems, which adversely affect the assessment of this city.
Surveyed tourists pointed out that one of the biggest problems are clear deficiencies in the city's infrastructure , in particular the quality of roads and signage . There was also a complaining about the scarcity of green areas within the city. Some tourists also pointed to the insufficient level of cleanliness on their streets and sidewalks. We hope that the problem areas indicated by tourists will be an impulse for local authorities to introduce changes that would improve these aspects of urban tissue.
It is worth emphasizing, however, that as many as 95% of the surveyed tourists declared satisfaction with the hotel base both in terms of the quality of the facility and the services provided therein. The fact that Chania also has many other strengths may also be testified by the fact that a similar percentage of respondents confirmed their willingness to return to this area of Crete.
Over 90% of respondents rated the quality of local cafes and restaurants highly. The quality of local products sold in local stores was also positive. Most often, because in the case of more than 50% of respondents, local wines and olive oil appeared on the shopping list. It is worth noting, however, that the popularity of medicinal herbs has been growing steadily for several years. In last year's survey, almost 30% of respondents declared their purchase. The vast majority of tourists also declared that during their stay, she felt very safe in Chania.
As the most popular destination for trips made during the stay in Chania, tourists pointed to the Elafonissi beach. A large part of the respondents also declared that they visit sacral objects during trips.
The survey was conducted using anonymous surveys and interviews carried out at the airport in Chania. In total, 4,100 people took part in the study, traveling by low-cost airlines and connections made as part of charter flights. The poll was carried out from May to October 2018. The cyclical survey is carried out under the patronage of the Chania region as part of a cooperation run by the Hotel Association in Chania, the Mediterranean Agricultural Institute in Chania and local universities.
