The European Museum Forum (European Museum Forum - EMF) has announced nominations for next year's European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA). In the group of 39 objects fighting for this distinction, there were two Greek museums. One of them is the Archaeological Museum in Eleftherna, which without any exaggeration can be considered one of the most modern facilities of this type in Crete. You can read more about this object in our description of this museum .
The EMYA Award has been awarded by the European Museum Forum since 1977. The aim of this award is to see the most valuable events and objects emerging in the European museum sector. The EMYA award is also to be an incentive to innovate in museums and break down typical patterns of activity.
It is worth mentioning that in 2016 Polin - the Museum of the History of Polish Jews was the winner of this award. Next year, four Polish museums will compete for the award: Museum of Pharmacy Antonina Lesniewski, MA - a branch of the Warsaw Museum, the Four Domes Pavilion Contemporary Art Museum - a branch of the National Museum in Wroclaw, the Pan Tadeusz Museum - a branch of the Ossoliński Ossolineum National Institute in Wrocław and the Przełomy Center - a branch of the National Museum in Szczecin.
The final of the competition will take place in Sarajevo in May. We will certainly post information on our website in case the Archaeological Museum in Eleftherna is among the awarded objects.
